State Rep. Ken Borton today announced that $2.5 million for fish habitat restoration in the Manistee and Au Sable rivers has been officially signed into law by the governor as part of Michigan’s 2027 state budget. 

The project funding, which Borton successfully secured, will support infrastructure improvements and expanded river restoration efforts aimed at protecting the ecology of two of Michigan’s most iconic trout streams while strengthening Northern Michigan’s outdoor recreation economy. 

“This investment is a major victory for the ecological future of two of our state’s most treasured rivers,” said Borton (R-Gaylord). “The Au Sable and Manistee rivers are renowned destinations that attract visitors from across the country and play a vital role in our local economy. By restoring fish habitat and improving these waterways, we’re ensuring that these rivers remain healthy for future generations.”
